Their Function:

The Area Resource Specialists (ARS) work for the Department of Health, through the Developmental Disabilities Division.

These positions were created as a requirement of the Weston Civil Suit, Settlement Agreement.

This includes the first point of contact for new waiver applicants, attending transition, annual and 6 month review meetings.

In summary, the Area Resource Specialists: provide initial assistance to consumers in accessing the waivers administered by the Division; assure that freedom of choice is provided in selecting an Individually-selected Service Coordinator (case manager); attend plan of care meetings, and be the contact on the local level to address any question that might arise regarding the Developmental Disabilities Division.
